The Present

When life gets hard, it can be tough to stay hopeful. When was the last time you were hopeful?

Like a child who excitedly waits for the “new.” Like a sleepover, or something that was promised to you. Many of us experienced our hope being diminished like dandelion seeds being blown by the wind. Not to be harsh, but to self-protect. A wall is built brick by brick. We lose trust in those whom we thought otherwise. Those who are close or even strangers. No longer trust in any humans, including family, friends, and those who believe in God, Yahweh himself. We would rather believe in and trust our imperfections than in those who make promises we know are false, and when they don’t follow through, it reinforces the thought, “I knew it,” and the nonexistent expectation. You can’t disappoint someone who never had expectations in the first place. Then, we place our hope in the imperfections of the world that we believe we create ourselves. If we control the world around us, nothing can go wrong. Right?

Perhaps we can transform ourselves by renewing our hearts and minds, living in the present, and hoping for the future.
